Solar PV

Solar power is a renewable source of energy that works by absorbing sunlight and converting it into useful electricity for onsite requirements.  Installing solar PV (photovoltaic) panels enables businesses to utilise areas such as their roofs,  car parks and ground space to generate energy supply to meet onsite electricity needs instead of relying on expensive energy from the grid.

The power generated can be used directly or stored for later use to reduce the energy costs during peak energy times.

How can solar power benefit your business?

  • Renewable source of electricity

  • Low carbon solution

  • Reduce utility usage costs and reduce reliance on grid energy by generating your own electricity

  • Utilities stability,  through predictable electricity costs allowing accurate forecasting of future utility expenses

  • Applicable for renewable heat incentive.

How Solar PV works

  1. Solar panels - photovoltaic cells convert sunlight into DC electricity

  2. Inverters - inverters convert DC electricity into AC electricity, the type of electricity that is needed

  3. Generation meter - the AC electricity is fed through a generation meter into the mains distribution board

  4. Distribution board - the distribution board supplies power for your onsite requirements

  5. Site meter - the site meter exports to the grid or reduction in purchases electricity depending on the site load

  6. National grid - excess solar electricity generated is sent to the grid for the utility to use.
