ORC (Organic Rankine Cycle)
ORC units take low grade/temperature heat energy produced from numerous sources such as renewables (biomass, geothermal energy, solar energy), conventional fuels and waste heat from industrial processes and converts it into useful work. This useful work can then be used to generate electricity.
How can ORC benefit your business?
Capture and use of waste heat energy that is produced on site.
Renewable source of electricity.
Low carbon energy solution.
How ORC units work
ORC units use the vapour compression cycle of an organic working fluid with a liquid-vapour phase change/boiling point occuring at a lower temperature than water. The working fluid pumped around a closed loop system, it is evaporated using the waste heat energy provided, passed through an expansion device known as an expander and then through a condenser (heat exchanger) where it is re-condensed. Energy is captured from the fluid when it passes through the expander device. This energy is then used to turn a turbine which then generates electricity.
